Workforce Development Division
Workforce development is a joint effort in Alabama. It is a combination of hard work and skilled citizens that give our state its nationally recognized reputation for training and recruiting. The Alabama Department of Commerce’s Workforce Development Division (WDD) is the State’s administrative entity for the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) with the responsibility to carry out the grant’s functions related to administration and the provision of services. This program is funded 100% with Federal dollars made available to the State of Alabama Department of Commerce by the U.S. Department of Labor/Employment and Training Administration. The Workforce Development Division is dedicated to strengthening and improving our State’s public workforce system by helping place Alabamians into high-quality jobs and careers and enabling employers to hire and retain the skilled workers they need to sustain and grow their operations.
WIOA is designed to help job seekers succeed in the labor market and to match employers with the skilled workers they need to compete in a global economy. The role of the Workforce Development Division is to support Alabama’s workforce system through WIOA by making available services that enhance the development of economically disadvantaged youth and those with significant barriers to employment. WDD works with the Alabama Career Center System to support education and training programs and provide vital services designed to help job seekers access employment, education, training, and support services.

With almost 30 community and technical colleges around the state, the Alabama Community College System is an integral part of developing Alabama’s legendary workforce.
Four Year College System
In addition to their focus on higher education and professional preparation, our four year colleges also play a big role in workforce development in Alabama; specifically with advanced degrees in Engineering, Agriculture, and Healthcare.
Alabama Technology Network (ATN)
The Alabama Technology Network is a part of the Alabama Community College System and the Manufacturing Extension Partnership. ATN’s team of experts help solve the needs of industry and business through innovative, sustainable, cost-effective solutions. ATN can conduct detailed needs assessments, outline potential solutions based on the results, and provide technical assistance to help you solve those problems or identify those who can.
Go Build Alabama
For the past several years, the Alabama Construction Recruitment Institute has been building a new generation of skilled workers, thanks to the popular Go Build Alabama initiative that’s rallied workers throughout our state. Go Build Alabama aims to bridge the gap between tomorrow’s workers and the skilled labor industry.
